The Purina PetCare Centre is the largest and oldest research centre in the world, dedicated to pet nutrition. For over 76 years, the Purina PetCare Centre has conducted research on topics spanning from nutrition to aging to genetics. The Centre is dedicated to understanding how to help pets live long, healthy and happy lives. The over 1,000 dogs and cats at the Purina PetCare Centre are cared for by over 60 staff members, including veterinarians, groomers and breeding specialists.

One of the recent studies by Purina researchers is the 14-year Purina Life Span study. This first ever life long canine diet restriction study found that dogs that consumed 25% fewer calories than their litter mates during their lifetimes maintained a lean or ideal body condition, resulting in a longer life. Other benefits from feeding to ideal body condition included a delayed onset of chronic disease, such as arthritis, and fewer observed signs of ageing.
