| The Judges There are four judges in the breed section this year and this assignment for them is every bit as prestigious as it is for the dogs and exhibitors. Three of the judges are highly experienced international judges and are straight from the pages of “Who’s Who” of the dog world. Goran Bodegard (Sweden) Gundogs, Working Dogs, Utility (Rottweiler, Akita, Alaskan Malamute), Whippets & Best In Show Goran, a full time paediatrician and child psychiatrist, got his first champion when he was 12 years of age - in the 1950’s - a deerhound bitch. He has bred some very influential Greyhounds and progeny has been exported and become very important in the United States and the United Kingdom. He has been active in Gundogs, Working Dogs, Toys and some of the Utility breeds. Goran started to judge dogs in 1966 and is now an FCI Allbreed judge and has judged repeatedly in Europe, United States, Asia and Australia. He is at present a member of the judges’ commission of the Swedish KC and was the chairman of the Swedish Greyhound Club (and also Deerhound Club) for many years. Donna Cole (Canada) Non Sporting & Balance of Utility Donna is a retired Nursing Administrator who has bred Boxers since 1967 and Boston Terriers since 1988. She has bred or owned over 165 Canadian, American and Bermudan Champions. She has been an Allbreeds Judge since 1990 and an active member of several canine clubs including 11 years as President of the Boston Terrier Club of Canada. She has instructed conformation handling classes for 22 years and is Co-Chairperson of the Judges Education Group. She has judged in 23 countries. Chan Weng Woh (Malaysia) Toys, Terriers & Hounds (less Whippets) Mr Chan’s involvement with showing dogs began with the importation of his first Pekingese from Australia. His Smooth Fox Terriers have won the coveted title of Terrier of the Year for five years in a row. Since 1994, he has served as a Director of the Malaysian Kennel Association and has served as the Secretary of the Malaysian Kennel Association Perak Branch for the past 16 years. He is also a member of the Judges and Steward Sub Committee and has served as the Chairman of the Obedience Sub-Committee. His involvement in judging began in 1986 when he joined the Judges Training Scheme. He has judged in much of Southeast Asia and Australia Carolyn Cederman (New Zealand) Puppy Stakes, NZ Bred Stakes & Best In Show Winners Stakes

Each year a New Zealand judge is given the honour of judging alongside the “imported” judges. This year it is Carolyn. Carolyn comes from Patumahoe in South Auckland. She has been exhibiting dogs since her first Irish Setter in 1973 and after 30 years is well known in Gundog ring. Over the years She has imported a number of dogs and included them in my breeding programs. She has shown 4 of my Irish setters to their NZ Grand Champion title. She breeds Irish Setters under the famous Lanascol prefix and has been judging for 15 years.
Obedience Judges John Young (Tauranga) John's introduction to the sport of dog obedience started in Southland in 1977. John found success with his RC Collie "Heidi" and went on to represent Zone at the NDOA in Napier in 1980. In 1986 John decided to give something back to the sport that had brought him so much pleasure and he has been judging ever since, having been on the Test C panel since 1994. He has had the honour of judging at 7 NDTAs since 1993 and is looking forward to his appointment at the Nationals this year.
Ron Sheppard (Christchurch)
Ron started on the obedience judging panel in 1994 while increasing their numbers of German Shepherds all of which competed successfully in obedience and working trials and, from 1988,
in agility. Ron is a senior agility and working trials judge as well a Test
C obedience judge. Ron is a Life Member of the Christchurch Dog Training
Club and the Canterbury Canine Agility Training Society, is current vice
president of the Obedience Trials Association, has been the Zone Four
Representative and is currently Zone Treasurer. He has represented the Zone
at a national (NDTA) level in Obedience, Agility and Working Trials.
Bill Lewis (Auckland)
Bill's involvement in dog obedience started when he and his wife joined an Obedience Club in Auckland in the hope that they could develop a pastime that they could do together. Their first dogs in obedience were standard poodles - a somewhat unusual place to start a life in Obedience. They had moderate success with the poodles but it wasn't until they progressed into the training of dogs more of a working ilk that regular success resulted. Bill currently has two dogs working in Obedience - one in Test C with several challenges behind him and a young one in the process of moving from Novice to Test A (see photo in the Obedience and Agility Section). Bill is confident that the Nationals will once again show our dogs to be of a very high standard and is very much looking forward to being involved.
Agility Judges
Shane Prendergast (Canterbury)
Shane became a judge six years ago. He owned and trained the first dog in New Zealand to
gain 200 CRC's. He have represented Zone Four in both obedience and Agility,
and made the finals of the N.A.C twice. Shane breeds German Shepherds under the
prefix 'Reigersburg' and is very passionate about this breed. After
competing at past Nationals in breed, obedience and agility he is honoured to be officiating this year.
Roger van Huenen (Tuakau) Roger started competing about 7 years ago with a Lab X called Flame. Two years later he guided his Kelpie ‘Mouse’ to the title of Agility Champion. He started judging 4 years ago so he could give something back to the sport he loves. Roger is looking forward to attending and judging at his first Nationals.
