Mission Statement
The NZ Young Kennel Club provides opportunity for young people to be active participants in canine activities and to act as a conduit to education, leadership and social interaction.

Aims
  • To provide opportunities to develop leadership and social responsibility.
  • To educate young people in the care and training of dogs.
  • To develop courtesy, sportsmanship and self-discipline.
  • To encourage a sense of responsibility in dog ownership.
  • To enable young people to participate in activities connected with dogs.
  • To promote activities which fulfill the foregoing aims.

The NZYKC is currently being set up especially for young dog lovers between the ages of 6-24 years and encourages interest in the care, training and activities associated with dogs, and also offers them opportunities to develop their organizational talents that will not only help within the world of dogs but also in their own lives.

As a member of the club you will not only be able to meet new friends (human and canine alike) but you will also have the chance to learn and get involved in all things connected with dogs.

Inaugural NZYKC Weekend

On 14/15 January 2006 18 youngsters ages between 8-18 will descend on the Auckland Exhibition Centre, Ardmore, coming from as far afield as Napier and New Plymouth. They will be gathering to develop their skills with a variety of demonstrations in canine disciplines such as agility, obedience, heelwork to music, ring craft and grooming provided by our enthusiastic senior members keen to pass on their skills to the future of our hobby.

Included in the weekend’s events are also sessions with the Pro Plan Vet, presentation, personal grooming and public speaking skills, along with the evening social schedule which includes a karaoke competition.
