Welcome to the page of Linda & Chris Jury of Schallenberg Bernese Mountain Dogs in Taranaki.
We have owned and loved Bernese since 1991 and now share our home with 9 of these gorgeous dogs. Our first Berner was Moritz Typhoon Toyah, followed by our beautiful Swedish Import Eiger (NZCH Jamakis Lucky Swede). We then kept a lovely girl Skye from one of Eiger's litters - sadly Skye passed away in February 2007 at the grand old age of 11 and we lost our beautiful girl Vevey in November 2008 at the age of 10. Our household now consists of Murren, Monty, Kiwa, Summer, Denver, Dante, Emmerson, and our new addition Arizona (oh and the cat Simba!) and we welcome our new import Sennen Maden Heaven - Sienna who has an exciting background and gives us a completely new bloodline.
Our aim is to never waiver from our goal of perfecting the unique beauty and temperament of the Berner, and never to breed for fad rather to maintain the original working qualities and purpose as well as wonderful family members.
We believe temperament is the most important concern in a companion dog so we will never compromise on soundness of character nor physical soundness.
All of our dogs intended for breeding are hip and elbow scored and fall below the current breed averages, and they have all attained their NZ Championship title, so we know they all have superb temperaments. Our dogs live within our home as treasured members of our family.
We breed only for quality improvement and not simply to satisfy orders. Our pups are raised underfoot and well socialised with people and other dogs by the time they leave with their new families.
All companion pups are sold with a non-breeding endorsement on their NZKC registration. This means we do not sell breeding stock, and we require that all companion pups are neutered / spayed by 12 months old. We believe that only the best pups in the litter should ever be considered for breeding and or showing if the breed is to see ongoing improvement.
Pups come microchipped, wormed, vaccinated and with a comprehensive guide to raising and care, pictorial pedigree history and ongoing breeder support, a years membership to the Bernese Mountain Dog Club (NZ) Inc, and a puppy pack (consisting of a bag of food, blanket, bowl and toy)
We vet our potential puppy homes very stringently to provide the best possible homes for our precious babies.

 Our beautiful Summer!
Summer has proved to be a wonderful foundation bitch for Schallenberg exhibiting all the qualities we were looking for to carry the strength of the Schallenberg programme forwards in leaps and bounds. We feel extremely lucky to have her.
From a predominantly Swiss pedigree, she has the substance & breed type rarely seen in a bitch, and the wonderful temperament so prevalent in her ancestry. At 45kg, Summs is heavily muscled, and an absolute powerhouse on the move yet still retains her femininity, beauty and classical European look.
We have enjoyed a great deal of success with her in the showring. Her sterling temperament and character make her a pleasure to take anywhere, and super reliable!
WINNER OF BOB and INTERMEDIATE OF GROUP at the 2006 NATIONAL DOG SHOW and RESERVCC BITCH to her littersister at the BMDC 2006 Championship Show under a renowned breed specialist judge from the USA.

Summer produced her first litter in 2005 from a linebreeding to the veteran, Multi CH Turi V Bernetta (Swiss Imp) and we kept her son, Denver (CH Schallenberg Man of Mysturi).
Her 2nd litter involved flying with Summer to Australia to use the magnificent Multi BIS BISS Aus, Am, Can, Swed CH Zanzebern Defender - Denzel owned by the Lennons - we were lucky Summer produced 9 beautiful pups - two of which we decided to keep - Dante & Emmerson.
Her 3rd litter was to Grand Champion Bernerdalens Qantas (Imp Swe) - Tas owned by David & Gail May in Australia - we imported semen from Tas but unfortunatly only got 1 male puppy from the first try and nothing from our second try. Tonka is owned by a wonderful friend Barb and we will watch him mature and keep him in our breeding programme.
Summs last litter was to Hvalbernerns Ablaze Deeodin (Imp Nwy) - Viggo owned by Lisa Stevenson - Yum had 2 boys and 2 girls (surviving) and we have kept a girl called Arizona - see photo's of her in our scrapebook.
We are truely grateful to Lisa (Anahera Bernese) for entrusting us with Yum - she has been a huge part of our breeding programme and produced excellent type and substance for us to continue forward with. Yum will continue to live a life of pampering and luxury with us - and will help keep the youngsters under control!!!

 Denver is from Summer's first litter to Turi (owned by Lisa Stevenson) He is a magnificent boy taking Best of Breed at the National Curtain Raiser 2006 over his mum.
Denver has been hip and elbow scored coming back with 0:0 hips and 0:0 elbows - needless to say we are very pleased. He is only the 2nd NZ Bred Bernese to ever score perfect zeros.
Described by a USA Breeder Specialist judge as "Reminiscent of the big Swiss type Berner farm dogs of old" Denny will take time to mature into his big body, and hopefully his brain will catch up in due course! He is a bit of clown but loves his runs and hugs - life would certainly be boring without him!!
He is a pleasure to own and a truely wonderful friend and companion with a sterling temperament.

 Dante and her litter brother Emmerson are from Summer's second litter to the magnificent Multi BIS, BISS Aus, Am, Can, Swed CH Zanzebern Defender (Denzel). Both have proved to be exceptional pups. Dante easily achieved her Championship status at only 13 months - she is a real show stopper and we are excited about what she will offer Schallenberg kennels in the future. Dante's success continues with 2 x BABY PUPPY OF GROUP, 1 X NZ BRED OF GROUP, 1 X JUNIOR OF GROUP and RESERVE OF GROUP, and Emmerson also has a BABY PUPPY OF GROUP win. Emmerson has also gained his Champion status and although he is a stunning dog he doesn't enjoy the ring as much as his sister does!
Dante is certainly following in her parents paw prints - winning BEST OF BREED - NATIONALS 2008 with her litter sister Essie winning Reserve Bitch and Emmerson winning Reserve Dog - a great weekend for Schallenberg!
Dante was awarded the trophy for TOP WINNING BERNESE in 2008 and Emmerson was awarded BEST NEW ZEALAND BRED.
We are extremely excited about Summers progeny and the future they hold. Dante has been scored and we are very pleased with the soundness Summer is producing - Elbows 0:1 and Hips 2:2 - Dante's sister Essie has also been scored - Elbows 0:0 and Hips 0:1. Emmerson's elbows are in - 0:0 hips 4:5.
2009 - Dante already has 2 x JUNIOR OF GROUP and 1 x INTERMEDIATE OF GROUP wins this year and has now been awarded her GOLD CERTIFICATE OF MERIT for obtaining her 50th challenge - and she has only just turned 2!! Emmerson is also coming into his own and doing very well in the show ring as well - even beating his sister for BOB at a recent show - much to Chris's delight!!
